Lion Hunt in Morocco - Eugene Delacroix. 74x92

Eugene Delacroix (1798-1863) - French painter and graphic artist, one of the founders of the romantic trend in European art.

The canvas is interesting by the plot, new for its time, the extraordinary brilliance and emotionality of the image. The artist painted a picture in which he managed to lively convey his impressions of Morocco, twenty whole years after traveling to Africa.

Hunting scene imbued with dynamics and energy, literally felt the tense atmosphere that prevails in front of fight with a lion. Delacroix chooses not the climax of the event, but the moment preceding it. Another minute - a shot will strike and the fight will begin. Color ratios are filled with contrasts of red, blue and green. Nature, which serves as the background for what is happening, is not dispassionate; it is one of the heroes of the work. The inner movement is felt in everything: the trunk of the tree seems twisted, seething and rising in waves the distance goes to the horizon, restlessly cross legs and the horse breaks out. A similar interpretation of the topic is very indicative of a romantic artist. Traveling in the East, Africa, taking an interest in the culture of other countries, romantics brought new, unexplored plots to the art.
