David with the Head of Goliath, Bernardo Strozzi

David with the Head of Goliath, Bernardo Strozzi

David with the head of Goliath - Bernardo Strozzi. 164x106

Bernardo Strozzi painted a magnificent large canvas "David with the Head of Goliath". He defeated the enemy, chopping off his head with his sword.

In the Strozzi painting, the victorious David walks along the crest of a hill; his figure, the diagonal of the sword, a fluttering pink scarf - all this stands out beautifully against the sky. The low horizon determines the position of the viewer, who must look down at the hero and admire him. His “shepherd's” costume is rather bizarre and theatrical, the complex turn of the figure corresponds to the ideas of the era of “graceful” and “beautiful”. However, we do not notice these conventions, subdued by the joyful revitalization, courage and strength of the young man, carried away by his triumph.

Built on a comparison of spatial diagonals (a tree trunk, a sword, the figure of David, his leg extended forward), the composition at the same time is distinguished by remarkable decorative qualities. In his declining years, Strozzi finds in Venice a joyful consonance of colors and feelings, which Paolo Veronese once endowed with his magnificent decorative canvases.
