In order to know the aesthetic ideals of the peoples of Ukraine who lived in the past centuries BC and we need to look into the wonderful Museum of Historical Treasures. Here are collected collections of precious stones and metals, which are historical and artistic rarities. This museum is located in Kiev.
Of the largest collections reflecting 3-4 millennia BC, one can distinguish a collection with jewelry. It presents objects of the Bronze Age and the Early Iron Period. Of great interest are items dated 7-3 millennium BC, which were made by Scythians, Cimmerians and Sarmatians. These tribes lived in the forest-steppe and steppe parts of Eastern Europe.
Carrying out numerous excavations, archaeologists found a large number of gold jewelry for clothes, and a lot of silver products were found. These jewelry were intended for weapons, ritual bowls, vessels, horse harness. Large collections are represented by jewelry for women, this included: earrings, various pendants, embossed miniatures, hryvnias. In those days, the hryvnia was worn around the neck, in the form of a twisted hoop. Of particular interest are collections of beads, the filigree patterns of which and the variety of shapes can freely compete with modern collections of beads, and even exceed them by an order of magnitude.
Historical excavations show that jewelry was made in the Northern Black Sea region, which belonged to the Greek city-states of Greece, as well as Asia Minor. According to legend, the masters came from the cities of Khersones, Olbia, Panticapaeum.
Walking through the halls, you can admire the exhibit that worthily adorns the collection of jewelry - a golden pectoral, which was found during excavations of the mound called Thick Grave. This decoration was worn by the Scythian king, according to legend, it was made by an ancient master. The decoration dates from the 400th anniversary of our era.
And what beautiful products were made by the nomadic peoples of the Turkic group, which included the Tatar-Mongols, Pechenegs, Huns, Polovtsy, Avars. Just do not take your eyes off the presented expositions of weapons and harnesses, as well as personal jewelry framed with various precious stones, some inlaid with semi-precious stones.
Of considerable interest are jewelry made by masters of the Eastern Slavs of the 6-8th century and masters of Kievan Rus of the 9-13th century, in which the technique of cloisonne and notched enamels was applicable. The term “enamel” appeared only in the nineteenth century; before that, enamel was called “enamel”. The technology of obtaining a picture from enamel is a long process that can be repeated up to hundreds of times, but, in the end, an original masterpiece of a work of art is obtained, an exact copy of which cannot be repeated.
In the museum you can get acquainted with the compositions of the masters of Kievan Rus, whose works consisted of mythical images, subtle ornaments of geometric and floral motifs. Gold jewelry with colored shades of enamel looks especially elegant.
All the exhibits presented in the museum show the descendants the process of formation of the artistic work of Ukrainian masters of the past and present time period.
