Vasily Grigorievich Perov, biography and paintings

Vasily Grigorievich Perov, biography and paintings

The seal of the illegitimate child pursued Perov from birth until the time when the great artist ceased to be someone’s son, and became himself - a bright and extraordinary person. His last name is the result of a witty nickname, which he received from his first teacher, a clerk, a drink, given for his graceful possession of the pen.

A little bit about parents

Artist's father was Baron Kridener, who served as a prosecutor in a distant Siberian province. The Creeder coat of arms is replete with royal lilies, unicorns and roses, which indicates antiquity and nobility. Many brilliant diplomats came out of the Frieders who served the Russian Empire in the New and Old Worlds.

Hero mother - Akulina Ivanova, was a Tobolsk bourgeois. It is known that it was she who taught the future professor and academician to read. And nothing more is known.

Despite the fact that shortly after the birth of Vasily, Baron Kridener and Akulina Ivanova were married, neither his surname nor the title his father could transfer. Vasily was assigned to the Arzamas bourgeoisie with the surname Perov.

Childhood

From the very birth of Vasily, the Creedenera family constantly moved somewhere. At first, this was connected with the service of his father, then, after the scandal in Arkhangelsk (Baron Kridener was an educated and well-mannered person, but his tongue was very unrestrained), he had to leave the service because of satirical verses describing all the persons involved in the provincial administration. Now the wanderings of the family were connected with the search for a new service. Petersburg, Livonian provinces, Samara, Arzamas - had to live everywhere with numerous relatives, which did not make the atmosphere in the family completely happy.

Finally, when the baron lost all faith, he received an offer to enter the service of the manager of a large estate. Seeing his son’s passion for drawing, his father decides to send him to Stupin’s private school in Arzamas. Twice a week, the boy attended classes at school. Three months later, the teaching ended (classmates took 13-year-old Perov with them to the name of a certain dear girl, after which the cabman brought a completely drunk teenager to his home and his mother said: No!). After the baron lost his manager’s place (well, Credener could not resist the taunts), the family again moved to Arzamas and was placed in an apartment just opposite the Stupin school. This time, mother did not let go of her son's sight, and her studies resumed.

Youth

In 1853, 20-year-old Perov entered the Moscow School of Painting and Sculpture. He begins training under the guidance of an experienced teacher Vasiliev, who quickly discerned a remarkable talent in a new student and helped him in every possible way. Already during his studies, Perov received a small silver medal for a modest sketch. Then there will be many of them - medals. But this, the first, the artist always remembered with special warmth. The last student's work is the painting The First Row, which brought the young artist a small gold medal.

At the end of the school, Perov greatly agitates society with his works: the Rural procession on Easter, the Sermon in the village, Tea drinking in Mytishchi - each work is a conviction, each is like a shot of hypocrisy, hypocrisy, cowardice. Clouds begin to gather over Perov’s head, the Holy Synod is annoyed and annoyed. Only the Academy’s big gold medal, scholarships and departure to Europe calmed passions. Youth is over.

Maturity

Perov abroad was bored, despite several remarkable works brought from there. He even appeals to the Academy for permission to return early. He needed Russia for inspiration, for the embodiment of ideas, for life.

At home, the artist works very fruitfully. Soon criticism and a progressive public spoke of a new talent. Each picture causes a storm of enthusiasm among writers and young people, as well as a storm of indignation among conservatives. Scenes of paintings Troika, Village funeral, The Drowned Woman, The last tavern at the outpost is exposed, cried, called. In each work, the author’s attitude to what is happening, his civic position, his pain are read.

At the same time, Perov creates a number of brilliant works telling about the life and joys of ordinary people. Pictures Sleeping children, Hunters on a halt, Fisherman, Dovecote delight the viewer with its transparent joy, an atmosphere of love and fun.

Separately, it is worth mentioning the galaxy of brilliant portraits painted by artists in their heyday. Dostoevsky, Rubinstein, Ostrovsky, Maikov, Dal - Perov left to his descendants deep psychological portraits of the most talented people of his era. Those whom Russia is proud of.

Perov is not only a great artist, but no less a great teacher. Under his leadership, at the Moscow School of Painting and Sculpture, more than a dozen artists grew up, making up the pride of Russian art.

In less than half a century, the Lord released Perov to earthly life. Consumption, the disease at that time incurable, interrupted the creative path of the great master. A small hospital in the village of Kuzminki near Moscow was the last refuge of the painter. His ashes are now resting in the cemetery of the Donskoy Monastery.
